Acclimatising Livestock

Adding your new livestock

Corals

Corals usually do not need to be acclimatised to water parameters or temperature.

  • Unpack the corals carefully.

  • Check them briefly for any damage.

  • Then place the corals directly into your aquarium.

Invertebrates

These include clams, shrimp, crabs, snails, sea urchins and similar animals.

These animals should be slowly acclimatised to your aquarium water to avoid stress.

How acclimatisation works:

  1. Float the sealed transport bag in the aquarium for approx. 10–15 minutes so the temperature can equalise.

  2. Then open the bag and pour the contents into a clean bucket or bowl.

  3. Now slowly add aquarium water – ideally using the drip method or by adding a small amount of tank water every 5–10 minutes.

  4. Repeat this for about 30–60 minutes until the volume of water has at least doubled.

  5. Then carefully place the animals in the aquarium. Please try not to add the transport water to your aquarium.
