Moderate
Suitable for aquarists with an established, stable reef aquarium and some experience keeping LPS.
Buy high-quality Alveopora/Goniopora
Alveopora and Goniopora are among the most striking flowerpot corals for the marine aquarium. With their long, gracefully swaying polyps and an exceptional range of colours in green, red, yellow or multicoloured variants, they bring life and movement to any reef. Successful Alveopora care and Goniopora care depend on stable water parameters, gentle to moderate flow and a regular supply of fine coral food and trace elements. Discover high-quality Alveopora and Goniopora corals in carefully selected colour morphs at Premium Reefing for a healthy and colourful reef tank.

Care at a glance
With stable water parameters, balanced lighting and gentle, indirect flow, Alveopora and Goniopora corals display their full polyp splendour. Consistent care and regular observation promote healthy long-term growth and intense colouration.
These details are intended as a guide. Always watch how each individual coral responds and adjust light, flow and placement as needed.
Suitable for aquarists with an established, stable reef aquarium and some experience keeping LPS.
Moderate lighting promotes good polyp expansion. Major changes in lighting should be made gradually.
Gentle, alternating flow keeps the polyps clean without stressing the delicate tissue.
Regular feeding with fine frozen food or coral food can significantly promote growth, vitality and polyp development.
A spot with some distance from other corals protects the long polyps from damage.
Under stable conditions, Alveopora and Goniopora grow steadily and develop impressive polyp colonies over time.
More about Alveopora/Goniopora
Alveopora and Goniopora are often confused because of their similar growth form. The clearest difference lies in the number of tentacles per polyp: Alveopora usually have twelve tentacles, whereas Goniopora typically develop twenty-four.
Both coral genera impress with their long, mobile polyps and exceptional range of colours. Thanks to modern captive breeding, many species are now considered much hardier and can be kept successfully in the long term with stable water parameters.
Alveopora and Goniopora are among the most impressive LPS corals in the reef aquarium. Their long, elegantly swaying polyps give any reef exceptional movement and make them a real eye-catcher.
From bright green, yellow and pink to rare multicoloured variants, these corals offer enormous variety. Modern captive-bred specimens are now considered much hardier than in the past and can be kept successfully with stable water parameters.
Alveopora and Goniopora develop their long polyps best with stable water parameters and consistently high water quality. Rapid changes in temperature, salinity or carbonate hardness should be avoided.
Recommended guideline values:
• Temperature: 24–26 °C
• Salinity: 34–35 PSU or approx. 1.025–1.026
• pH: 8.0–8.4
• Carbonate hardness: 7.5–9 dKH
• Calcium: 400–450 mg/l
• Magnesium: 1,250–1,400 mg/l
• Nitrate: 5–15 mg/l
• Phosphate: 0.03–0.10 mg/l
Water parameters that are as constant as possible, without large fluctuations, matter more than an exact target value. Carbonate hardness in particular should be tested regularly.
Alveopora and Goniopora prefer moderate lighting and gentle to moderate, alternating flow. Excessive or constantly directed flow often prevents full polyp expansion.
Regular feeding with fine plankton or special coral food can further support growth, colour development and vitality.
The ideal spot is usually in the lower to middle part of the aquarium. There, Alveopora and Goniopora receive enough light without being constantly exposed to excessive light intensity.
Make sure there is enough distance from neighbouring corals so that the long polyps can unfold fully. At the same time, the flow should alternate and move the polyps gently without constantly pushing them in one direction.
New corals should be acclimated slowly to the existing lighting. Gradual acclimation reduces stress and supports full polyp expansion.
Moderate lighting supports healthy growth and intense colours. New corals should be acclimated slowly to higher light intensities.
Flow should be gentle to moderate and preferably alternating. This keeps the polyps constantly moving without putting them under permanent stress.
Regular feeding with fine frozen food or special coral food can significantly promote polyp development and growth.
Under stable conditions, Alveopora and Goniopora grow steadily and over time develop impressive colonies with long, elegantly swaying polyps.
