Depends on species
Requirements vary considerably between fish species. While many species are well suited to beginners, others need a lot of experience and special conditions.
Discover our invertebrates for your aquarium
Invertebrates perform important tasks in the marine aquarium and help maintain the reef's natural balance. Whether sand-sifting starfish that loosen the substrate or Berghia nudibranchs that control Aiptasia naturally – many species make a valuable contribution to a healthy aquarium. Discover carefully selected invertebrates at Premium Reefing for sustainable care and greater biodiversity in your marine aquarium.

Care at a glance
Marine fish need stable water parameters, a varied diet and a species-appropriate environment. With good water quality, suitable hiding places and balanced feeding, they stay healthy in the long term and show their natural behaviour and full colours.
These details are intended as a guide. Always watch how each individual coral responds and adjust light, flow and placement as needed.
Requirements vary considerably between fish species. While many species are well suited to beginners, others need a lot of experience and special conditions.
Lighting is primarily based on the needs of the corals. Most marine fish have no special requirements for light intensity.
Varied flow ensures good oxygen exchange and is matched to the needs of the fish species and corals kept.
A varied diet of high-quality dry, frozen and live food supports the health, colours and natural behaviour of the animals.
Sufficient swimming space, hiding places and an aquarium size suited to the species are crucial for successful long-term husbandry.
Size and growth vary considerably between fish species. The eventual adult size should already be taken into account when buying.
More about invertebrates
Invertebrates perform numerous important tasks in the reef aquarium. They consume leftover food, keep algae growth under control, clean the substrate or contribute to the aquarium's biodiversity.
Besides their practical benefits, many species delight with their exceptional colours, interesting behaviour and diversity. This makes invertebrates one of the most important components of a natural and healthy reef aquarium.
Invertebrates enrich any reef aquarium with their diversity, interesting behaviour and important roles in the natural reef. Whether shrimp, hermit crabs, snails, sea urchins, sea stars or other invertebrates – many species make a valuable contribution to biological stability while providing fascinating things to observe.
Besides their role as algae grazers or scavengers, many invertebrates delight with exceptional colours, fascinating behaviour and their perfect adaptation to life in the reef aquarium. At Premium Reefing you will find carefully selected animals for a wide range of aquarium sizes and stocking concepts.
Most invertebrates prefer a mature reef aquarium with stable water parameters and consistently high water quality. Shrimp, snails and sea urchins in particular are sensitive to large fluctuations in water parameters.
Recommended water parameters:
• Temperature: 24–26 °C
• Salinity: 34–35 PSU or 1.025–1.026
• pH: 8.0–8.4
• Carbonate hardness: 7.5–9 dKH
• Calcium: 400–450 mg/l
• Magnesium: 1,250–1,400 mg/l
• Nitrate: 2–15 mg/l
• Phosphate: 0.02–0.10 mg/l
Before being introduced, invertebrates should be slowly acclimated to the aquarium's water parameters. Careful acclimation reduces stress and supports a successful start in their new habitat.
Not every invertebrate is suitable for every reef aquarium. While some species remove algae growth or leftover food, others perform important tasks in cleaning or loosening the substrate.
Before buying, check whether the desired species is compatible with your existing fish and coral stock. A varied combination of different invertebrates supports a stable biological balance and increases the diversity in the aquarium.
Stable water parameters and slow acclimation are the most important requirements for successful husbandry. Shrimp and other sensitive invertebrates in particular should be acclimated to the aquarium using the drip method.
Many invertebrates perform important tasks in the aquarium. Depending on the species, they help control algae, consume leftover food or clean the substrate, contributing to a stable biological balance.
