Goniopora & Alveopora · LPS coral

Care at a glance

Typical requirements of the genus – individual specimens may differ.

Difficulty
Demanding – better suited to experienced reef keepers.
Light
Moderate to high, as even as possible.
Flow
Moderate to strong and alternating, so the polyps stay clean.
Placement
Middle zone with open surroundings; the long polyps need space.
Feeding
Benefits from fine plankton and powdered food.

Goniopora and Alveopora stand out with their flower-like polyps, which stretch out far and sway in the current. Alveopora has shorter polyps with twelve tentacles, Goniopora much longer ones with 24. Both genera appreciate a mature tank with stable parameters and a certain level of nutrients, as conditions that are too sterile quickly lead to decline. Fine powdered food and a regular supply of trace elements support their care. With some experience, they reward you with a unique look that is constantly in motion.
